The Lakehead Japanese Cultural Association invites the community to experience the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavours of Japanese Canadian culture at its annual Summer Matsuri. This free, family-friendly evening festival welcomes everyone for an unforgettable celebration of community and heritage.

A matsuri is a traditional festival, and the LJCA Summer Matsuri shares Japanese Canadian culture, food and arts with the broader Thunder Bay community. This free public event is made possible through the generous support of corporate sponsors and countless volunteers.
The Matsuri features a dynamic lineup of live entertainment! From heart-pounding Japanese taiko drumming, to martial arts demonstrations and the ever popular Cosplay Contest. In addition to live performances, attendees can explore a bustling market featuring local artisans and cultural goods, alongside an array of food vendors serving up delicious, authentic Asian cuisine.

Whether festival goers are looking to taste incredible food, feel the beat of the drums, or cheer on the cosplay parade, the Summer Matsuri offers a welcoming space for all ages to connect and experience Japanese Canadian culture first-hand.
